Product Reviews for Stara Sokolova 12 Year Old Plum Brandy

Uncertainty of Claims

This is a complex review. Based on the official acclaims of this 12 years brandy, one is left perplexed. How come the question is? Given the facts to the fiery taste and aroma it is a new batch with its fiery taste of a very young brandy.Undoubtedly, when this 12 year’s brandy has achieved their official gold’s medals it was indeed the official 12 years brandy. The only one drinkable is the Quince that has the same colour as the claimed 3 Apricot.Several years later, facts lead that no-longer it is available and instead the company has decided to still advertise their product as 12 years brandy.Fortunately, one is from the Balkans and has indulged in Balkan brandy for quite a few years. It is easily identifiable the aroma and fiery taste, that it is found only in freshly made brandy. Once the brandy is matured becomes mellow and the opens the palate asking for another glass.Unfortunately, with the claimed-on paper 12 years brandy does not have a place in the decanter at home. From the same company I have tried the 3 years Apricot exactly the same fiery taste. Extremely confusing to how come a company is inclined to fabricated claims of aged brandy? Still after one a sip and no-longer did found place in the Brandy decanter. Hope those who are from the Balkan will be able to relate to the facts describing to the fiery fresh taste and not a smooth and mellow taste. The reason I am providing 5 stars is due to the name of the British Company the Whiskey World and the official awards by the Stara Sokolova. However, I am unable to provide score to the young and fiery taste of the brandy.Only those from the Balkan tradition will be able to identify the fresh taste that do not correspond of the official documents to the 12 years maturity.Regrettably, promoting young and fresh brandy, to working colleagues might not be advisable in doing so.Studying the official claimed process to how the brandy is made, has remained, misleading in this case.Recently, received an email form the StaraSokolova head office. The reply was still found unclear to the fiery and non-matured Brandy. It was mentioned that only 3000 bottles are realised every year. What was not disclosed, that from the Balkan region this type of Brandy after 10 years of maturity will lost over 90% of the fiery taste. The mellow aroma is released and truly enjoyable. In this occasion unfortunately, was not found enjoyable. This is the reply from the Company: Dear Krasimir, Thank you for contacting us about our products. I apologize for late reply, but I was away from office, involved in distilling quince brandy. I am sorry to hear that your experience with our product purchased through Taste Brandy was not what you expected from 12yr rakija. Ageing fruit distillate in oak gives it more mellow aroma and taste and oak influence usually overpowers primary and secondary aromas of fruit distillate. Still every fruit distillate ages in different direction based on its own initial properties and type of barrels used. With Stara Sokolova 12 yr we wanted to keep as much beautiful and fresh/fruity aroma and taste as we can with a little "zest". We also did not want to go towards smokey scent because, in our opinion, it does not go well with slivovitz. Stara Sokolova 12yr is one of our most popular product, sold in limited quantities of 3000 bottles per year. Still everyone's taste is different and I encourage you try other two brandies you ordered although I am not 100% sure which ones are those. We have apricot aged in oak and eau-de-vie and our quince brandy aged in oak is 3 years old although we do not specify it on the product. If you send us you comments about them with photographs I can share with you more information about them. Sincerely, Ivan Bogdanovic _____________________________________________________________________________________________________Anyone, tasing a Brandy from the Blank region and is 10 years + it will indeed be able to enjoy Balkan traditions.A special thanks to The Whisky World and festive wishes.Kind regardsKrasimir
