Perhaps the pinnacle of all the bottles released since Karuizawa's closure is this stunning 50 Year Old single malt. Distilled in 1965, it was matured in a single sherry butt until 2017, when it was bottled and rested for a further five years. This rich and complex spirit was encased in a beautiful decanter which pays homage to the Japanese art of Kintsugi, wherein broken pottery is repaired with golden powder. It's a release that provokes meditations on the storied history of Japanese whisky and the importance of appreciating beauty while we can.
