Bols has a rich heritage dating back hundreds of years – it claims to be the world’s oldest distillery brand, producing three million cases of various spirits and liqueurs every year. Though there is little historical evidence to back it up, it’s a generally accepted fact that the distillery was founded in 1575 when the Bols family arrived in Amsterdam and set up shop.
It was Lucas Bols, ‘Master Distiller’ who was the brains behind the Bols brand – his expertise and knowledge resulted in authentic recipes which have been passed down through centuries and kept a closely guarded secret. By distilling, macerating, percolating and blending the high-quality ingredients, the Bols name has remained an ever-present in the liqueur lexicon for hundreds of years.
