From the most scenic of distilleries comes this 12 year old Highland single malt, a rare cask strength expression of Edradour's sherried malt. Distilled in 2012, this whisky was matured in first and second-fill oloroso sherry butts. This is Batch 4 of Edradour's 12 year old cask strength release: a small batch as a result of the limited production of the small distillery- making it all the more special. Notes of dark chocolate and dates.

Tonight’s dram takes me (virtually) back to the Edradour distillery in Perthshire, Scotland for their 4th batch of the 12-year-old Cask Strength Sherry Cask single malt. Before sipping, I have to take note that this is the darkest dram I’ve sipped, with the exception of Beinn Dubh The Black, which is really bad stuff. The Edradour Batch 4 opens with luscious red apples, dark toffee, black cherries, blood oranges, plump dates, juicy raisins and blue plums; followed by vanilla, cinnamon, cloves, dark rich honey, heavily-charred oak, and coffee beans; finishing with dark creamy caramel, dark chocolate chips, charred orange peels, and freshly-cracked black pepper. Hooyah! It is intense – big bold flavors throughout. Everything about it is dark – the palate even more so than the eye. The thick-clingy legs and heavy full-mouthfeel deliver a long spicy, dark-fruity, uber-complex, well-balanced, toasty finish that sets Edradour apart from its peers.
Drink slow, drink long, drink a variety, drink often.
