Longrow whisky is known best for being twice distilled and extremely well peated. Originally produced on the island if Islay, since 1973 it has been produced in Campbeltown on Argyll and Bute. Longrow is one of three single malts produced at the family owned Springbank Distillery. Located in the highly popular producing area of Campbeltown, once home to 34 distilleries, it is now just one of three distilleries still producing in the area.

Once at the centre of whisky production the area was popular for it’s dry malts, however it fell on hard times in part due to the distillery owner’s greed but also because of the Highland train line opening up access to the more northern distilleries.

Founded in 1828 by the Reid family, less than 10 years later financial hardship saw the sale of the Springbank Distillery to brothers John and William Mitchell, with the fifth generation Mitchell still owning it today. Traditional production methods are still in use, with the Springbank Distillery one of the only two carrying out 100% of the process on site.
