The blood red label that adorns the label here should give you fair warning, if not the fact that Smokehead themselves describe this release as “explosive” certainly should. That is to say that this is a fiery malt, matured in Oloroso sherry casks and bottled with notes of banana and a vicious smoky finish.

This whiskey was a pleasant surprise. The nose is straight up candied Canadian bacon (I would say candied ham but there is more smoke on the nose than regular ham, but not enough smoke to say traditional bacon). The pallet is sweet, smoky, sherried delight. The balance is incredible, so much so that I had initially thought this was an Islay blend and not a single malt . The finish is light but there and does not linger long on the tongue, a light BBQ smoke with a crisp red apple, citrus note as it fades away.
5/5 would buy this whisky - so much so I purchased the entire Smokehead line up that can be found on TWW as well as a few back up bottles of Sherry Bomb. Wish this was more readily available in the states, but ill gladly pay the shipping premium
