Alcohol has been produced on the site the Glenmorangie Distillery now sits as far back as the middle ages, with documented evidence dating it back to 1738 when a brewery was built at Morangie Farm, sharing the farm’s Tarlogie Spring water source. Nearly 100 years later, in 1843, William Matheson purchased the farm and created the Glenmorangie Distillery. In 1918 its largest customer, Macdonald and Muir, purchased the distillery and would go on to control the company for the next 86 years.
Founded in 1843, Glenmorangie is as synonymous with Scotland for many as the Scottish Highlands in which the Glenmorangie Distillery is nestled. Sitting on the banks of the Dornoch Firth, founding father William Matheson pioneered the production of an exceptionally complex and smooth single malt whisky that is honoured to this day in Glenmorangie’s award-winning whisky.
The flavour profile of Glenmorangie whisky is typically sweet, rich and fruity, with character notes that exude zesty lemon and fresh apricot, cut with smooth honey, malt and tasty toffee. Here at The Whisky World, you’ll discover an exciting collection of Glenmorangie whiskies, with a wide selection of series and ages available to appeal to a broad range of Scotch whisky enthusiasts.
