Campbeltown was once a town booming with more than thirty distilleries. Now there are just three in operation – but they still consistently turn out a number of incredibly rich and pungent whiskies that enthral connoisseurs the world over. The town itself sits on the Mull of Kintyre peninsula – and it’s rumoured that this proximity to the open water gives Campbeltown whiskies their inimitable salty tang.

Springbank and Glen Scotia are the main two distilleries that have survived from the golden era of Scotch domination – Mitchell’s Glengyle was resurrected back in 2004, and now sells intoxicating single malts under the name Kilkerran. Springbank whisky retains a smoky taste that is robust and perfectly befitting of the area, while Glen Scotia’s, light, grassy options offer a wonderful alternative.
