Talisker is one of the world’s most famous distilleries and is the only distillery on the Isle of Skye. Currently operated by Diageo, it produces single malts that are marketed as part of Diageo’s famous ‘Classic Malts’ series – a collection of premium, beloved whiskies.
Talisker single malt was the preferred whisky of Robert Louis Stevenson, author of Treasure Island, who referred to it as the ‘king o’ drinks’ (alongside brands like Glenlivet and Islay).
Established on the Isle of Skye in 1830 by brothers Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill, the Talisker Distillery sits on the shores of Loch Harport.
Despite its early beginnings, it wasn’t until 50 years later in 1880 that the brand achieved some stability and prestige, in fact, esteemed author R.L.Stevenson described Talisker as “the King o’drinks as I conceive it” while travelling through the region during that year.
Since then, the Skye-based whisky has grown from strength to strength, winning fans across the world thanks to its unmistakable character profile. This character embodies the very land in which Talisker was born, from the rugged coast and rough waters of the Atlantic Ocean to the salty, peated smoke that gives the spirit its distinct, signature flavour.
