Released in early 2023 as part of the ‘Darkness’ series from Atom Brands, this Blair Athol has been aged for thirteen years, including a short finishing spell in Oloroso octaves. This is a limited release, with just a few hundred bottles hitting the market.

My prior experience with Blair Athol has been very positive, but I can still only find special releases, no regulars. The folks at Darkness bottled tonight’s dram at 15 years old. It opens with toasted oak, raisins, cinnamon, and charred orange peel, followed by dark bitter chocolate, creamy caramel, and pecan pralines, then firey red-hots, a little clove, blue plums, and lots of malt. The legs are thick-and-runny, delivering a medium-long finish of well-balanced yumminess.
Drink slow, drink long, drink a variety, drink often.
