Isle of Jura Distillery is situated on an island so remote, it was referred to as ‘the most un-get-at-able place’ by George Orwell. The author famously headed to the island to write his masterpiece, 1984. Rebuilt and fully restored from ruin in 1963, the distillery is situated beside an enormous whirlpool and features a number of incredibly tall stills, setting it apart from rivals in the area.
Home to Jura whisky is the isle of Jura itself, a remote and wild island that sits 60 miles from the West Coast of Scotland. This diverse and stunning landscape is a rugged, romantic mix of mountainous peaks, peaceful lochs and unpredictable seas, while the only signs of human civilisation are a singular road, a lonely pub and, of course, the famous Jura Distillery.
This landscape gives Jura single malt whisky its distinctive taste of subtle smoke and dry sweetness, both of which are realised in perfect balance to deliver a Scotch whisky that appeals to a broad range of enthusiasts. Here at The Whisky World, you’ll discover a fine selection of Jura whiskies, from collectable rare vintages to modern easy-drinkers, there’s something for everyone from the most hardened of whisky lovers to relative newcomers.
